Poetry and Rebellion to the Rhythm of Ska
Some pay tribute out of nostalgia, others out of necessity. L’Orquestra Inventada, in their first official release, clearly choose the latter: a “Tribute to Pere Quart” that doesn’t aim to put the poet on a pedestal like a statue in the square, but rather to reclaim him as a comrade in the trenches — a living, combative reference.
The single features two tracks: a ska version of Tirallonga de monosíl·labs, and a high-voltage ska-punk adaptation of Corrandes d’exili, reviving the original spirit of the poem Joan Oliver (Pere Quart) wrote in Paris in December 1939, with nostalgia running deep and the rage of exile as creative fuel.
“We chose Pere Quart because of his unwavering commitment to country and language — carved from stone. He deeply inspires us, and although we’re far from reaching his stature, we’re proud to follow in his footsteps,”say the band, with their usual mix of humility and a hunger to shake things up.
Between Tongue Twisters and Battle Cries
Tirallonga de monosíl·labs is one of Pere Quart’s most iconic pieces. A seemingly simple poem that becomes a portrait of deep longing and essential needs, spoken in short but weighty words. “A bit of bread, a drop of wine… and a little peace.” The Orquestra spins it into a rhythmic, festive, and provocative ska — practically made for bar karaoke or TikTok duets — with a secret (and giggling) wish: to spark a viral tongue-twister challenge.
Corrandes d’exili, on the other hand, is less about dancing and more about marching forward.
“We wanted to return to the original version of the poem, written in Paris just months before the Battle of France. It has a different force — a rawness that gets lost in softer versions that came later.”The result is a powerful adaptation, with the tone of a restrained outcry — perhaps the one Pere Quart might have chosen if he’d had a distorted guitar in his hands.
Tribute as a Gateway
Far from trying to “defile” the poet’s legacy, L’Orquestra is clear about their goal: to get his voice into new ears — turning it into a shout of celebration and remembrance.
“We hope it resonates with both young and old. But hey, it’s a lottery. People will decide. We just want his story to reach more people, and if it plays at the summer festivals, we’ll be more than happy.”
The single, released ahead of the full demo arriving this May 1st, is part of a high-energy year for L’Orquestra Inventada, who are already working on new tracks and will release a new ska double this Sant Jordi: “Volem més català” and “Que la terra et sigui lleu, company Rocamora”, dedicated to a tireless fighter who passed away last November but remains present in every note of resistance.
A Project to Blow Up the Scene
The Orquestra is betting on something greater than the sum of its parts: a musical uprising fed by poetry, rhythm, and an insatiable desire to change everything — by dancing.
“Yes, it’s a tribute. But it’s also a shout, a hug, and a starting shot. This is just the beginning ✊🏿.”
